Introduction

At TU/e Electrical Engineering department we are setting up an Engineering Team (ET) to strengthen our valorisation activities. The goal of the ET is to develop our research outcomes further from typically low technology readiness levels (TRLs) 3-4 towards more mature prototypes which can facilitate market adoption and valorization. In this way we facilitate technology transfer to industry or provide a promising starting point for university spin-offs.

We are looking for a Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) engineer who will join the ET and support the technical valorisation activities linked to our Center for Wireless Technology (CWTe, www.tue.nl/cwte). The ideal candidate should have relevant industry experience in DSP and FPGA implementation of telecommunications algorithms.

 

Job Description

The main tasks of the DSP/FPGA engineer are the following:

  • Design, implement, and optimize DSP algorithms for wireless/telecommunications systems on FPGA platforms.
  • Translate research algorithms (often starting from MATLAB or similar higher-level models) into efficient and real-time FPGA implementations.
  • Contribute to the development of demonstrators and application-relevant prototypes in collaboration with academic and industrial partners.

Job Requirements

We are looking for candidates who meet the following profile:

  • MSc or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field
  • Strong experience in DSP algorithm development and FPGA implementation, ideally for wireless/telecom applications (e.g., modulation/demodulation, filtering, synchronization, channel estimation, equalization, beamforming, or related PHY-layer processing)
  • Affinity to work on the interface between academia and industry as well as government
  • Team player who can work in an international and multicultural team
  • Willingness to step out of their comfort zone and expand their current knowledge
  • Fluent in written and spoken English is required. Dutch is advantageous

Skills & Tools

  • Digital design and software development languages: VHDL, Verilog / System Verilog, C/C++, MATLAB, Python
  • Platforms: Xilinx/AMD (Zynq, UltraScale, RFSoC),SDRs
  • Development Tools & Design Environments: Vivado / Vitis, Quartus, ModelSim/Questa, MATLAB/Simulink (including HDL Coder), Git, JTAG debugging tools
  • Relevant Knowledge: DSP techniques, fixed-point arithmetic, high-throughput/low-latency FPGA design, wireless communication standards and protocols (advantageous)

Conditions of Employment

  • Salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale 9 to 11, ranging from € 3,873 to € 6,682 gross base salary per month (full-time), depending on your knowledge and experience.
