About the employer

The Institute of Organic Chemistry is an independent, non-profit governmental research institute operated by the Polish Academy of Sciences. According to the national rankings the IOC PAS is first in the category of scientific institutes conducting research in the field of organic chemistry and second in the category of research on chemistry. In 2021 in the international ranking of the quality of scientific institutions, SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR), the IOC PAS took first place in terms of innovation among scientific institutions in Poland and fifth in the overall SIR ranking. IOC PAS possesses world class equipment and the oldest PhD-study system in the country. During its teaching activity, the Institute educated 435 doctors and 71 habilitated doctors. Currently, IOC PAS employs ~140 researchers (including ~50 PhD students) forming more than 20 research groups, with several well-known group leaders, and the highest percentage of young group leaders in Poland. The following key discoveries have originated from IOC PAS: vicarious nucleophilic aromatic substitution, monosugar synthesis via Diels-Alder reaction, corrole synthesis, super active catalysts from alkene methathesis reaction and organic synthesis planning using the software program CHEMATICA. Moreover, alumni of the IOC PAS have started several companies such as: OncoArendi and Apeiron Synthesis. The IOC PAS participates in prestigous national and international projects including 4 ITN projects under the Maria Skłodowska-Curie programme and in collaboration with leading scientific centres around the world.
