This industrial PhD position is part of the "Autonomous Systems for Land, Air and Space" (ATLAS) IPBG Programme co-funded by the FNR, SnT, and a consortium of industrial partners and administrations, including eBus Competence Center, Emile Weber, GomSpace, Gradel, IEE, Nexxtlab, Telindus, and Ville de Luxembourg. Your role
The successful candidate will join the SIGCOM Research Group, led by Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas, in collaboration with the Automation and Robotics Research Group, led by Prof. Holger Voos. Additionally, this industrial project will be conducted in partnership with the Proximus company as part of the IPBG ATLAS program.
This PhD project aims to develop a solution for 5G-UAVs in the context of service continuity in roaming scenarios between Luxembourg and Belgium. 5G-enabled UAVs will be deployed to deliver a wide range of services across both countries. The project will aim to design solutions to reduce the handover and roaming procedure time, validate the resulting approaches using simulations firsthand, and then implement them on practical testbeds.

Qualification: The candidate should possess an MSc degree or equivalent in Telecommunications and Computer Science.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have some knowledge and/or experience in several of the following topics:
Strong analytical and programming skills are required (Python, Matlab, Golang and C/C++) as well as knowledge in the Kubernetes and Docker container systems. Prior proven experience in data-driven innovation projects is an asset as well as having prior research publications in high-ranking journals or in international conference proceedings. Most importantly, you should be curiosity driven and willing to constantly learn new things!
Language Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. French, German or Luxembourgish is a plus.
