Open Date

Description

The Division of Biomedical Sciences (BioMed) at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) invites applications for faculty positions at all ranks (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Full Professor). BioMed is a newly established division with the ambition to become a world-leading center for interdisciplinary biomedical research, graduate education, and innovation. KAUST is a graduate research university designed to enable high-impact science: it combines world-class research infrastructure, advanced core facilities, substantial institutional support, generous baseline research funding, and internationally competitive compensation in a highly international academic environment. Its concentration of top-tier faculty across engineering, biological sciences, computational science, imaging, and quantitative disciplines creates exceptional conditions for modern biomedical research, especially for investigators who thrive in interdisciplinary and technology-rich settings.

Qualifications

BioMed seeks exceptional candidates with a compelling record of originality, rigor, and international competitiveness, and a clear trajectory to build an impactful research program at KAUST. The division welcomes applications spanning the breadth of biomedical science and biomedical engineering, and is intentionally open to outstanding candidates whose programs cut across traditional boundaries. Areas of interest include, without being limited to, infectious diseases and host–pathogen biology (including surveillance and antimicrobial resistance), immunity and inflammation, human genetics and functional genomics, aging and regeneration, cancer biology, neuroscience and brain health, biomedical data science and AI, and programmable biomolecular systems and enabling platforms, including technologies that support scalable discovery, validation, and real-world implementation. Candidates who can build reusable capability at scale are encouraged, including methods, datasets, tools, or shared platforms that accelerate research across multiple laboratories. We particularly welcome candidates with clear plans for translation, including collaboration with in-kingdom and external partners and a practical pathway to validate and implement outcomes in real-world contexts such as clinical practice, public health programs, industry, or other applied settings relevant to their work.

Successful candidates will be expected to establish and sustain a globally visible, externally competitive research program; contribute to BioMed’s interdisciplinary culture; and participate in graduate teaching and mentoring. KAUST supports faculty with outstanding research infrastructure and a uniquely international campus community designed to enable both professional excellence and family well-being.

Application Instructions

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until positions are filled. Interested applicants should submit the following materials:

  • A cover letter (including the rank sought and broad alignment with BioMed)

  • A curriculum vitae, including full publications list

  • A research statement describing a 3–5 year vision and an initial execution plan at KAUST (5 pages maximum)

  • A teaching/mentoring statement  (2 pages maximum)

  • Contact information for 3-5 referees (Referees must be acknowledged experts in the field and predominantly from academia)
