The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) is the national institute which prepares expert reports and opinions on questions of food, feed and chemical safety and consumer health protection in Germany on the basis of internationally recognised scientific assessment criteria. It advises the Federal Government and other institutions and interest groups in these areas. The BfR conducts its own research on topics that are closely linked to its assessment tasks. It is an institution with legal capacity within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).

In the Department of Pesticides Safety of the BfR, the following position is to be filled with immediate effect for a fixed term of three years within the framework of the project "TX9 MAP" in the specialised group "Testing and Assessment Strategies of Pesticides":

The EFSA-funded third-party project TXG-MAP is working on the regulatory implementation of New Approach Methods (NAM), in particular omics techniques. The focus is on issues relating to the derivation of limit values from omics data and the development of corresponding framework concepts.

In detail, the activities include

  • Evaluation of data from omics analyses, in particular toxicogenomics
  • Derivation of points of departure from toxicogenomics data
  • Collaboration in the development of evaluation concepts, in the creation of technical guidelines and in the further development of test methods in the field of NAM & Toxicogenomics
  • Preparation of scientific publications and presentations
  • Collaboration in the conception, scientific support and, if necessary, the realisation and coordination of workshops and conferences

Your profile:

  • Completed university degree (Master's degree, diploma or comparable university degree) in toxicology, biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics or a comparable bioscientific specialisation
  • In-depth knowledge of and, if applicable, scientific publications on topics relevant to the call (in particular toxicogenomics)
  • Very good knowledge of English and good knowledge of written and spoken German 
  • Good IT skills as well as a conscientious way of working, flexibility, the ability to work in a team and under pressure as well as the willingness to travel are required


  • PhD
  • Basic knowledge of the health risk assessment of (bio)pesticides, including the legal basis
  • Experience in European or international committees and projects
