Professorship (§ 36 HG NRW) in Presentation Technology and Design Development
(legal basis: W 2 LBesG NRW).
The position will be based in the School of Art and Design.
The position is to be taken up by 1st of April, 2026.
For our Industrial Design department, we are looking for a distinguished designer personality with an established track record in practice and teaching, with outstanding ability to convey and further develop presentation techniques and methods in all stages of the design process.
Duties and requirements:
- Your portfolio includes artistic and technical design work and shows how this can be translated into the core teaching areas of this position, systematic basic training for industrial designers (BA) and for the presentation and development of innovation processes (MA).
- You will focus on teaching principles of form, digital and analogue representation techniques and formal-aesthetic terms to develop a specialist vocabulary.
- For example, you will research how new representation techniques and methods for design development can contribute to communication between the actors involved in design and innovation processes.
- You have a special pedagogical sense for groups and individuals with regard to the development and formulation of teaching, learning and research models. You develop interdisciplinary research-based teaching formats and events in collaboration with the other artistic degree programmes in the school. In doing so, you will take into account the special features of creative methods and the interdisciplinary interaction with design, concept design and technical development.
- You will supervise projects and theses at Bachelor's and Master's level. You will teach your courses in German and, if required, in English.
- You are characterised by the ability to work in a team and interdisciplinary cooperation with colleagues from theory and practice, as well as the willingness to commit in interdisciplinary research activities of the university.
You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by your artistic portfolio, relevant teaching experience, provide evidence of practical experience documented by corresponding references and the successful acquisition of third-party funding.
Formal requirements:
- Completed university (or university of applied sciences) degree in design
- Special aptitude for either academic or artistic work and additional achievements
- As a rule, special aptitude for academic work is proven by the quality of a doctorate desirable with a topic relevant to the advertised position and additional relevant academic achievements, which were achieved when appointed to a first professorship as part of a junior professorship, a habilitation or an academic activity as an academic employee at a university, research institution, in business, administration or another social field in Germany or abroad
- Special aptitude for artistic work and additional artistic achievements, usually demonstrated by special achievements during five years of artistic activity, of which at least three years must have been spent outside the university sector
- Pedagogical suitability, which has to be proven by appropriate previous experience or, in exceptional cases, demonstrated by excellent performance during the appointment procedure
