Professorship (§36 HG NRW) in “Construction Operation and Construction Economics”

(legal basis: W 3 LBesG NRW).

The position will be based in the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering.

The position is to be taken up by 01 October 2025.

We are looking for a committed and dynamic personality for the dynamic, sustainability- and future-oriented areas of expertise in construction operations, construction methods and construction economics.

  • Your possible future topics include innovative concepts in construction operations and the construction industry, sustainability in construction and the associated effects and opportunities for the construction and real estate industry, with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
  • You have comprehensive knowledge in several of the following areas: Lean management, serial production, modular construction methods, health and safety management, sustainability in construction or other innovative methods in the areas of construction operations, construction methods and the construction management industry. You have practical experience in site management and/or executive management.
  • We expect active cooperation and networking with regional, supraregional and national stakeholders in construction and real estate companies.
  • In teaching, your attractive courses for the school’s degree programmes range from construction operations, calculation and construction economics to project management, corporate management and development, law, construction methods, health and safety management as well as sustainability. Openness to innovative teaching methods as well as active participation in the school’s postgraduate part-time courses is desirable.
  • Laboratories for BIM, VR / AR, computer-aided modelling and robotics are accessible in research and teaching in cooperation with the colleagues.

Your visible profile and experience in the above-mentioned tasks and requirements is documented in publications, relevant project experience, activities in national or international committees and / or successful acquisition of third-party funding.

Requirements:

  • University degree in civil engineering.
  • Aptitude for scientific work, usually proven by the quality of a doctorate, desirable with a topic relevant for the advertised professorship.
  • Besides pedagogical suitability, which has to be proven by appropriate previous experience or, in exceptional cases, demonstrated by excellent performance during the appointment procedure, the applicant is expected to have a particular aptitude for scientific work substantiated by the outstanding quality of a doctorate.
  • Further scientific achievements must be demonstrated additionally and will be evaluated exclusively and comprehensively during the appointment procedure.
