Full Professor Multi-Modality Medical Imaging within the Imaging and Diagnostics Domain

The Multi-Modality Medical Imaging chair (M3i) M3i is a new chair, among three new clinically oriented chairs, that will develop imaging technologies for diagnostics, therapy guidance and therapy evaluation. The technologies should provide patient oriented solutions. Important clinical expertise areas will be surgical oncology and cardiovascular medicine. Preferably, these novel technologies should be non- or minimally invasive, ultrafast to real-time, and radiation-free. They can be enabled by the use of targeting markers, including molecular biomarkers, fluorescent tracers, and contrast agents. Developed imaging technologies should facilitate clinical decision support on an individual patient level to improve diagnosis and therapy planning to come to a more sustainable healthcare. The education by M3i serves the curricula of Technical Medicine and Biomedical Engineering with in-depth teaching of imaging concepts, and staff of M3i supervises clinical internships in (university) medical centers. M3I will be located in the new Technical Medical Centre, where all health related academic activities of our university will be concentrated.

The Imaging and Diagnostics domain The M3i chair together with the new Medical Image Analysis group will complement the university’s Imaging and Diagnostics domain (I&D). This domain combines expertise in the physics and technology of medical imaging in the Faculty of Science and Technology (Physics of Fluids, Biomedical Photonic Imaging, Medical Cell Biophysics and Magnetic Detection and Imaging) with the mathematics and data science needed for image reconstruction, analysis and interpretation in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (Robotics and Mechatronics, Applied Analysis).
