Open Rank Senior Lecturer to Professor in Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Biology
Faculty of Health and Life Sciences
The Living Systems Institute (LSI) is a flagship interdisciplinary research institute at the University of Exeter comprising Physicists, Mathematicians, Engineers, Biologists and Biomedical scientists. The mission of the Institute is to decode the complexity of living systems across scales, from sub-molecular to organismal and from microbes to humans. Our primary goal is to understand and control individual and collective cell properties, including formation and maintenance of complex tissues.
We are seeking to appoint two individuals with original and outstanding research programmes in stem cell biology. We are particularly interested in mechanisms of tissue formation, renewal, and regeneration and related disease but welcome applications from any area of stem cell science. Candidates will have a strong interest in interdisciplinary approaches and research questions that incorporate biophysics, mathematical modelling, and/or bioengineering.
The LSI is an interactive and collegiate research environment. Successful candidates will demonstrate how they can contribute to the vitality and success of the Institute.
These posts will be based in the LSI and affiliated to the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.
For all posts candidates will have:
As a Senior Lecturer you will conduct independent research and lead a research group as Principal Investigator. You will secure research funding to support your group. You will participate in PhD supervision. You will develop collaborative projects and funding proposals with colleagues in LSI.
At Associate Professor level you will lead an internationally established research group with competitive publications and research grant funding. You will participate in the development and implementation of LSI research strategy and training, and will lead collaborative bids for research, equipment and other funds.
At Professor level you will head an internationally renowned research group with a strong track record of research funding, a sustained output of international quality publications and successful trainees, and the drive to pursue new research directions. You will contribute to research strategy and interdisciplinary innovation in LSI. You will have a collaborative ethos and develop strong interactions with colleagues in the Medical School and across the University. You will promote the reputation and visibility of LSI locally, nationally and internationally. You will act as a mentor to other colleagues.
