The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching. The Faculty of Engineering Science at the University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a

Full Professor of Engineering Thermodynamics and Transport Processes

at salary grade W3 to commence as soon as possible. This is a permanent civil service position.

The successful applicant represents the professorship’s field in its entirety in research and teaching and has an outstanding record of relevant engineering work in future-oriented areas.

The research work should contribute to overcoming societal challenges such as a more efficient use of energy and resources in processes, plants and buildings, the decarbonization of energy conversion and material cycles, as well as alternative forms of energy storage. Theoretical, simulation-driven, experimental and, if applicable, AI-based contributions to fundamental and applied research, particularly in energy technology and sustainable mobility concepts are expected. In this context, the state of the art in science and technology is to be advanced, mainly in the following areas:

  • Thermodynamic cycles,
  • Heat transfer,
  • Mass transfer,
  • Trigeneration, and
  • Integrated energy systems.

The future incumbent must demonstrate excellence in both research and teaching. Involvement and the assumption of management responsibility at the Centre for Energy Technology (ZET) is required. Compatibility and adaptability for initiatives on DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centres is required. Interdisciplinary cooperation with other research centres at the University of Bayreuth, such as the Bavarian Centre for Battery Technology (BayBatt) or the Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Science and Society (RAIS²), is also desired, as is a willingness to participate in the UBT Future Energy Lab Wunsiedel.

The ability to teach in German and English is expected.
