Outstanding applicants are sought for a post of Reader (Associate Professors) in Robotics Engineering in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. The post is a fast track opportunity for promotion to (Full) Professor and to provide inspirational excellence and leadership in the University’s expanding multi-disciplinary robotics research. The ability to help manage and contribute to our new MEng Robotics Engineering and MSc Robotics and Autonomous Systems, http://www.bath.ac.uk/departments/department-of-electronic-electrical-engineering/, is also required.

The Department has a strong record in both research and teaching and close collaborations with industry. 91% of its research activity was graded as either world-leading or internationally excellent in the Research Excellence Framework 2014 and it is consistently very highly ranked in the National Student Survey, for example 95.76% Overall Satisfaction in NSS 2017, 4thin the UK.

Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and have extensive relevant experience in an academic or research-fussed environment, a substantial record of publications, a strong track record of grant capture and successful supervision of research staff and students. In addition to a full CV, applicants must provide an outline of plans for the post (up to 5 pages). The outline should have a strong research focus, including funding plans and a vision for multi-disciplinary robotics research, but should also cover teaching. The fit of the research vision with existing robotics and autonomous systems research in the Departments of Electronic & Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and elsewhere in the University should also be covered.

The post-holders will join a successful and expanding department and faculty. The University of Bath is based in an attractive, single-site campus that facilitates multi-disciplinary research. It is located on the edge of the World Heritage City of Bath and offers the lifestyle advantages of working and living in one of the most beautiful areas in the country.

Prior to drawing up a shortlist, potential candidates may be invited to visit the Department to meet staff and give a presentation on their research and teaching interests (this will be by Skype for international applicants).

We encourage the development of a diverse and inclusive workforce and offer excellent benefits, with options for flexible working. Female applicants are particularly welcome to apply.

For an informal discussion about the positions, please contact Dr Adrian Evans, Head of Department on +44 (0) 1225 386330, email a.n.evans@bath.ac.uk.
