The A-PECS research group at the Department of Bioscience Engineering in the Faculty of Science and the EnvEcon research team at the Department of Engineering Management in the Faculty of Business and Economics are looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Design, upscaling and optimization of environmentally friendly and economically viable photo-electrochemical technologies

Position

  • You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD grant application in the domain of design, upscaling and optimization of environmentally friendly and economically viable photo-electrochemical technologies
  • You will assist in ongoing research projects on the design, optimization and upscaling of photo(electro)chemical technologies within the NANOlight consortium.
  • You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
  • You are willing to assist in educational tasks.

Profile

  • You hold a Master degree in engineering science, chemical engineering, applied engineering or equivalent through experience; or you will have obtained it by the time you start to work.
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
  • You can speak and write fluently in English.
  • You have relevant experience with reactor design and photo(electro)chemistry.
  • You show interest in industrial chemical processes and process safety and experience with both is considered as a plus.
  • You show interest in sustainable development and the transition to a more sustainable society.
  • You show interest in cleantech and environmental technology.
  • Experience or affinity with techno-economic assessment, life cycle assessment or quantitative sustainability assessments is considered a plus.

What we offer

  • We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of 1 year. We will evaluate the extension of the agreement at the end of that year.
  • The planned start date is 1 October 2025 or earlier if possible.
  • Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
  • You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
  • You will do most of your work at the University of Antwerp Campus Groenenborger in a dynamic and stimulating working environment and in close collaboration with the Stadscampus.
