University Professor – salary grade W3 

for the Control Systems Group.

Working field:

Faculty IV – Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at TU Berlin has an open position for a professorship for control systems. Candidates must have conducted research into both methodological and application-orientated aspects of control theory. Examples of methodological focuses are hybrid and learning controls, as well as the systematic design of distributed and hierarchical controls. The candidate is expected to contribute these or other methodological topics to the DFG “Science of Intelligence” Cluster of Excellence, which has a strong interdisciplinary concept and is located at TU Berlin. Examples of application-oriented areas of research that align with the subjects offered in Faculty IV – Electrical Engineering and Computer Science are robotics and autonomous and intelligent systems, the control of energy networks and buildings, and the automation of medical technology systems.

The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with other academic chairs, e.g., Robotics, Electrical Drives, Power Electronics, Sensor and Actuator Systems, Electronic Measurement and Diagnostic Technology, Electrical Energy Storage Technology, Embedded Systems Engineering, Medical Engineering, as well as Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. They will also be expected to teach 9 course hours per week in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering bachelor’s degree programs (Fundamentals in control technology in German) as well as advanced courses in the master’s degree programs (in German or English). Cooperation with non-university research institutions and companies in the industry is an integral part of the duties and responsibilities.

Further responsibilities and skills include managing staff; supporting the advancement of junior scholars, women, and diversity; knowledge and technology transfer; initiatives to promote internationalization; gender and diversity competence and sustainability-oriented action; as well as committee work.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must fulfill the appointment requirements pursuant to Section 100 of the Berlin State Higher Education Act (BerlHG). These include a university degree; an aptitude for scientific work (generally demonstrated by the quality of the applicant’s doctorate); additional academic achievements (generally demonstrated by a positively evaluated junior professorship, Habilitation or other achievements equivalent to the Habilitation), as well as an aptitude for teaching (demonstrated by a teaching portfolio; for further information, please see https://​www.tu.berlin/​en/go209650/).
  • Qualified achievements in research and teaching; in‑depth knowledge of and publications in at least one of the areas mentioned above.
  • Teaching experience as well as experience in personnel and project management.
  • Applicants are requested to include a research and teaching concept with their application.
  • Previous success in acquiring third-party funding from the public and/or industrial sector and experience implementing the funded projects.

As a university with an international profile, we require the ability to teach in German and English, or the willingness to acquire missing language skills within a reasonable period of time.
