About Our Campus: Hebrew University’s Edmond J. Safra Campus is a vibrant hub of academic and research excellence nestled in the heart of Jerusalem. Our modern campus boasts state-of-the-art lab facilities, world-renowned faculty, and a stimulating environment that fosters scientific exploration, intellectual growth, and innovation.

About Our Department: The Genetics Department at the Life Sciences Institute is part of the Alexander Silberman Institute of Life Science at the Hebrew University. Our Department encourages a broad approach to genetics and epigenetics, studying how genes, chromosomes, and genomes are inherited, packaged, and regulated. We explore genome protection, gene expression, RNA regulation, and human evolution, using a variety of model organisms and cell types. Our diverse yet collaborative research fosters a vibrant scientific community.

About Our Research: The Nachmani Lab is leading an ERC-funded project to study the role of cell-type-specific ribosomes in regulating hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) function. This project aims to uncover how specific ribosomes regulate translation and impact the differentiation and maintenance of hematopoietic stem cells. The research involves a combination of molecular biology techniques, in-depth analysis of HSCs, and in-vivo experiments, including bone marrow transplantations.

Job Description: We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated post-doctoral fellow to join our research group. The successful candidate will work on cutting-edge research investigating the translation mechanisms in hematopoietic stem cells, focusing on ribosome specialization. This project involves both molecular biology research and in-vivo experiments using mouse models, including bone marrow transplantations. The position is fully funded through an ERC grant and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to an important area of hematology and stem cell research.

About Your Supervisor: Dr. Daphna Nachmani leads research on RNA modifications and their role in translation regulation within hematopoietic stem cells. Her lab focuses on understanding how ribosomes influence gene expression, particularly in normal blood cell development, leukemia, and viral infections. Dr. Nachmani employs advanced techniques like ribosome profiling, RNA modification sequencing, and CRISPR-based screens. She is a recipient of the ERC Starting Grant 2022.

Funding: Annual salary of 120,000 NIS (≈ 3.300 USD).

Your Profile (To excel in this role, we seek candidates with):

  • Experience working with mice and performing in-vivo techniques.
  • Molecular biology experience is an advantage.
  • Strong interest in hematology, stem cell biology, and translational research.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Embracing Diversity: At Hebrew University we believe that diversity inspires creativity, fosters curiosity, and enriches our ecosystem through academic collaboration and cultural exchange. We consider every member of our community an integral part, irrespective of their religion, gender, or ethnic origin.

HUJI is home to nearly 25,000 students across our 6 campuses, including ~2,500 international students per year representing 90+ countries.
