YOUR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES

In today's world, point-of-care devices such as glucose monitors have become ubiquitous, but their disposal contributes significantly to environmental waste. At SAL, we aim to address this issue by designing eco-friendly point-of-care devices fabricated using scalable technologies, particularly printing on biodegradable materials. The objective of this master's thesis is to investigate the impact of encapsulation approaches employed in developing sustainable printed electronic systems used as electrochemical sensors. The thesis will involve various activities aimed at achieving this goal. The following activities will be partaken as part of this thesis.  

  • Perform literature review (scientific articles, patents, etc.)
  • Investigate the effect of the developed encapsulation approaches on the electrical and mechanical properties of the printed electronic system
  • Electrical, and mechanical characterization and analysis of the printed electronic system.
  • Provide recommendations to improve the system's performance.
  • Perform data analysis and prepare reports. 

YOUR PROFILE

  • Master student (enrolled in EU university) in materials science, electronics, biotechnology, or similar fields
  • Experience with laboratory experimental setups (printed electronics and/or sensors a plus)
  • Experience with data processing, evaluation
  • Microcontroller experience and programming a plus. 
  • Experience with CAD tools and simulation software 
  • Autonomy and reporting skills
  • Collaboration, teamwork, and eagerness to learn. 
  • Good communication skills in English.

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA). For this position, we offer a competitive gross salary of EUR 1.863, paid 14 times a year.
