With the reappointment of the professorship, the department aims to further develop key aspects of urban sociology in a future-oriented manner, addressing the growing challenges faced by cities and regions. These include issues such as migration, housing research, aging/demographic change, socio-spatial transformation, spatial polarization, digitization, and participation. These topics create new demands for spatial research and development, as well as analytical, conceptual, and project-based tasks within the study programs in spatial and environmental planning.

Your responsibilities:

The post holder will be responsible for representing the subject area in both research and teaching. Specialization in at least one of the aforementioned fields is required. Courses should be offered across all degree programs within the department. In addition to relevant sociological qualifications and demonstrated expertise in qualitative and quantitative methods, as well as statistical analysis procedures, applicants should possess strong didactic skills and a proven track record in teaching.

Our requirements profile:

In addition to relevant academic qualifications in the field of urban sociology (doctorate required), applicants are expected to have additional academic achievements (e.g. habilitation, publications in relevant journals).Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding is a prerequisite.Interdisciplinary cooperation, especially within the department, is expected, as is active participation in academic self-administration.

The state of Rhineland-Palatinate and RPTU advocate a supervision concept in which teachers are expected to be present at the university location. In addition to the general requirements under employment law, the recruitment requirements set out in Section 49 of the Rhineland-Palatinate Higher Education Act apply.
