Nagra is Switzerland's national technical competence centre in the field of deep geological disposal of radioactive waste. Out of a strong sense of responsibility for the long-term protection of humans and the environment, around 130 employees are involved daily in performing this important work. The high level of competence is secured by targeted research programmes in two Swiss underground rock laboratories and intensive international collaboration.
To support the long-term transfer of knowledge, the Materials Performance Section in the Safety, Geology & Radioactive Materials Division is looking for a
As Project Manager for Subsurface Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical (THM) Optimisation you will be responsible for the model-based performance assessment and process-based optimisation of deep geological repositories. Your primary goals will be to oversee THMC modelling activities, to develop multi-scale process understanding by steering experimental programmes, and to further develop concepts and approaches while considering their limitations and the necessary abstraction. You will develop performance assessment methodologies, coordinate research activities in a coherent programme, and define design criteria for repository components and layouts that optimise the repository’s THM performance together with its implementation plans.
You have a background in geoscience, geophysics or engineering and have a deep understanding of THM processes and their modelling at various scales. You have demonstratable work experience in subsurface geoscience and have tackled issues related to fluid flow and geomechanics (chemistry is an advantage). You have a full professional proficiency and excellent writing skills in English, while a good command of German is a plus. Work experience in subjects related to deep geological repositories is considered an advantage.
We offer attractive working conditions in an exciting environment, challenging tasks and interdisciplinary collaboration in a motivated team as well as modern training opportunities.
If you would like to join us in the safe disposal of radioactive waste and contribute to one of Switzerland’s greatest infrastructure projects in the near future, please send your complete application documents by email to Ms. Katja Blechschmidt, Head of Human Resources (bewerbungen@nagra.ch), Job-ID 25569. For technical information, please contact Section Head Dr. Nikitas Diomidis (nikitas.diomidis@nagra.ch).
