Postdoctoral Fellowship in Organic Chemistry

Duration: 12+ months

Start time: Immediate.

Offer description:

An interdisciplinary team at the University of Mohammed 6 Polytechnic (UM6P) that is composed of research groups from chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, electrochemistry, catalysis and sustainable agriculture is seeking to hire a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral fellow in organic chemistry. The retained applicant for this position will play a leading role in organic synthesis. There are opportunities to work with international collaborators. The postdoctoral initial appointment will be for one year, with the expectation of renewal for one additional year.

Required qualifications:

The SusMat-RC has a strategic ambition to be among world’s leading communities for research, education and innovation. Candidate for this fellowship will be selected in accordance with this and expected to be in the upper segment of its class with respect to academic credentials.

Candidate must hold a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry and must have:

  • Clear understanding of the scope and role of organic chemistry in R&D
  • Experience in handling hazardous reagents (solvents, chemicals…)
  • Advanced knowledge in designing and execute experiments, analyze data, and contribute to the development of novel methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience in biopolymer extraction and functionalization.
  • Extensive experience and in-depth-knowledge in synthesizing small molecules, oligomers and polymers.
  • High knowledge in identifying by-products and purifying synthesized molecules. 
  • Excellent knowledge in organic/inorganic chemistry.
  • Proven experience in characterizing materials with analytical, spectroscopic and microscopic techniques
  • Strong scientific record, at least two published research papers in highly ranked peer-review journals.
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.

Preferred skills:

  • Experience in green chemistry is preferred.
  • Experience in in-depth analytical tools will be an asset.
  • Experience in inorganic chemistry is an asset but not required.

The Postdoctoral fellow will be:

  • Developing and characterizing on going and new generation of multifunctional materials. 
  • Assessing the performance of the formulated systems, in lab scale.
  • Participating in workshops, national conferences and summer school activities
  • Collaborating with world class institutions
  • Mentoring PhD and research assistant students
  • Contributing to drafting proposals, research papers and patents.
