Four positions at the School of Collective Intelligence

The School of Collective Intelligence at the Université Mohammed VI Polytechnic in RABAT, Morocco, is recruiting FOUR assistant or associate-level professors whose work focuses on some aspect of Collective Intelligence – the study of the behavior, decision making, and joint capacities of groups – for September 2024.

Context

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is an institution dedicated to research and innovation in Africa. The University focuses on economic and human development, and puts research and innovation at the forefront of African development. It aims to establish Morocco as an international leader in these fields, while boosting skills training relevant to the future of the continent. Located in the municipality of Rabat.

The professor recruited will be a full member of the new School of Collective Intelligence.

The School of Collective Intelligence is a dynamic group of fifteen researchers working on questions related to collective intelligence, including: 

  • how humans perform best in groups.
  • how to aggregate the beliefs of large bodies of people.
  • how to organize communities in business, politics or everyday life in ways that optimize information sharing and decision making.
  • the psychological foundations of collaborative action and learning.

The School of Collective Intelligence works in three main areas: 

  • Research (PhD supervision, research projects in Morocco and international collaborations.
  • Teaching dimension (master’s level and executive education).
  • Facilitation/advisory and executive education dimension.

The department is highly interdisciplinary, covering fields such as:

  • Cognitive Science.
  • Data Science.
  • Computer Science.
  • Anthropology.
  • Political Science.

Job Description

The recruited professor will divide their time between research, teaching and administrative work, in varying proportions depending on the individual circumstance.

The school has launched:

  • a PhD Program (Offer 4 years of funding to graduate students so that graduate supervision will be an integral part of the work).
  • a Master in Collective Intelligence.

The teaching will be in English.

The position is a full-time position and requires relocation to Morocco.

The position requires contributing to the administrative work of managing the department, which is shared among the faculty, including rotating responsibility for the Master and PhD programs.

Profiles

Candidates must have a doctorate/Ph.D. in one of the following disciplines:

  • Cognitive Science, 
  • Economics,
  • Political Science,
  • Other Collective Intelligence–related disciplines (such as computer science, data science, anthropology).

We are particularly interested in candidates who can work with experimental cognitive scientists and computer scientists, who employ empirical and experimental methods in their work. Proficiency with data collection and analysis, and with Open Science practices is highly desirable.

Candidates with professional and non-academic experience are also welcome, as we expect the professor to interact with private and public sector organizations in the applied dimension of the position.

Salaries and Working Conditions

Compensation will be variable depending on the candidates' experience but generally very competitive.

The recruited professors will benefit from a starting package, including startup research funding.

The New campus is located in Rabat, one of the most beautiful cities in Morocco; it is a one-hour flight from Barcelona or a two-hour flight from Paris.
