About Entity (Hiring entity):

The Water & Energy department at ASARI-UM6P focuses on innovative research in sustainable technologies, addressing critical challenges in water scarcity and energy demand. It pioneers in areas such as water treatment, renewable energy, and sustainable materials, aiming to merge scientific research with practical solutions. The department provides state-of-the-art facilities and a collaborative atmosphere, fostering significant contributions to environmental sustainability. Joining as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will lead impactful projects like "Solar Photocatalytic Hydrogen Generation via Wastewater Valorization," contributing to the department's mission of promoting access to clean water and renewable energy for a sustainable future.

Description of the position:

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to lead a project titled "Solar Photocatalytic Hydrogen Generation via Wastewater Valorization".

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow leading the project on "Solar Photocatalytic Hydrogen Generation via Wastewater Valorization," your core responsibility will be to innovate in the field of solar energy conversion. You will focus on developing cutting-edge photocatalytic materials capable of efficiently harnessing solar energy for hydrogen fuel production, while also addressing the critical issue of wastewater treatment. This role involves synthesizing these materials using advanced techniques such as sol-gel processing, hydrothermal synthesis, and chemical vapor deposition. You will characterize the developed materials using methods like BET surface area analysis, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy, and various spectroscopic techniques.

Your duties will extend to designing and overseeing experiments aimed at assessing the photocatalysts' effectiveness in solar-powered hydrogen generation and pollutant degradation. A significant aspect of this position involves not only the technical development of materials and processes but also the scaling up of these technologies for real-world application. As such, you will work towards the optimization of these processes, aiming for a balanced focus on efficiency, cost, and practical applicability. The role demands a collaborative approach to research, requiring frequent interaction with other scientists, engineers, and partners, both within and outside the institution. Moreover, you will contribute to the academic environment by mentoring students, publishing research findings in respected journals, and actively participating in relevant scientific communities.

Education

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.

Requirement

  • Proficiency in synthesizing photocatalytic materials through sol-gel and hydrothermal methods.
  • Expertise in analytical and characterization tools, including X-ray techniques, BET, DSC, SEM-EDS, spectroscopy (UV-Vis, FTIR, Raman), and chromatography (HPLC, GC-MS).
  • Experience with various experimental setups, such as autoclaves for hydrothermal creation and chemical vapor deposition systems.
  • A record of publishing significant research findings in prestigious journals.
  • Exceptional skills in teamwork and communication, indicative of a strong aptitude for collaborative research.
  • Deep knowledge of material simulation for energy applications, notably with Material Studio.
  • A solid understanding of the mechanisms behind solar photocatalytic hydrogen production.
  • Consistent publication of research in noted scientific periodicals, highlighting expertise in the analysis of photocatalytic materials and their reactions.
  • Prior involvement with photocatalysis for hydrogen output and wastewater treatment, designing and operating reactors, coupled with comprehensive skill in both spectroscopic/photoelectrochemical tools.
  • An eagerness to join and contribute to the multicultural team dynamics within the UM6P academic and research landscape.
  • Application packages should comprise a curated CV, a motivation letter, and the details of three professional references.
