The research group of Uncertainty quantification and inverse problems at the LUT School of Engineering Science is looking for
a researcher in the field of inverse problems.
The research group focuses on applied statistics and inverse problems. We specialise in the field of Bayesian statistical inverse problems, which refers to the effort to address real-world inverse problems as Bayesian statistical estimation problems. We study how statistical errors in measured data propagate to solutions within the complex mathematical models of inverse problems. Our group at the School of Engineering Science is part of the Centre of Excellence of Inverse Modelling and Imaging (2018-2025) selected by the Academy of Finland.
The position focuses on research at the interface of inverse problems and statistics. The research project is funded by the Department of Computational and Process Engineering.
You should have a PhD or DSc (Tech.) degree in a relevant field (e.g. mathematics or statistics). A strong background in the field of applied mathematics or statistics and good communications skills in English are required. Also experience in probabilistic machine learning techniques is considered an advantage.
The position will be filled for a fixed term of two years. The work starts with a six-month trial period.
The salary is based on the current collective agreement for Finnish universities. The work will start on April 1, 2020, or as agreed with the employer.
The deadline for applications is February 21, 2020, at midnight, Finnish local time (UTC + 2 h).
