A position is open for a full-time faculty member at the assistant professor level in the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of KU Leuven (Belgium) in the domain of organizational psychology, with a specific expertise in behavioral ethics. We are looking for candidates with a motivation to teach at both bachelor and master level. KU Leuven is a leading academic institution in Europe with a mission to realize excellent academic education and research. This position is based in the research unit Occupational and Organizational Psychology and Professional Learning (O2L).
The research unit Occupational and Organizational Psychology and Professional Learning (O2L) sets out to facilitate and stimulate growth and lifelong learning of both individuals and organizations, with specific attention to the changes in today’s work. The research within O2L is both fundamental and applied, and diverse in terms of content and method. The research unit is strongly involved in national and international interdisciplinary projects and networks and well connected to practice. The current position lies within the research unit’s mission and extends to the domain of behavioral ethics – the study of ethical decision-making and ethical behavior within organizations. Behavioral ethics is an important aspect of organizations worldwide as they increasingly navigate ethical challenges.

Duties

Research

Regarding research, we expect you to:
  • develop or strengthen a strong and international research program in the domain of behavioral ethics;
  • acquire research funding;
  • publish in international peer-reviewed journals;
  • supervise PhD students.

Teaching

Regarding teaching, we expect you to:
  • be passionate in teaching and in passing on knowledge and experience to students;
  • deliver high-quality teaching in organizational behavior at the bachelor and master level;
  • support student projects that are embedded in professional practice and supervise master theses in the field of behavioral ethics and organizational behavior, in line with principles of evidence-based management;
  • contribute to the development of the major in work, organizational, and personnel psychology and are committed to its reputation and quality.
The assignment of coursework will be determined based on your expertise considering the career phase you are in. You are expected to develop teaching in line with the teaching vision of KU Leuven based on activating, research-based and practice-oriented teaching.

Service

Regarding service, we expect you to:
  • take on academic responsibilities within the research unit, the faculty and the broader academic community;
  • actively engage in the dissemination of scientific knowledge to professionals in the field and the general public;
  • develop an international academic network in the research domain of behavioral ethics;
  • develop an (inter)national network of organizations.
Overall, it is important that you relate to the mission and vision of the research unit in research, teaching and academic service. This would translate into future collaborations with members of the research unit, the faculty and the university. 

Profile

  • You hold a PhD degree in psychology or in a related discipline;
  • You have a strong research record of international publications in peer-reviewed journals;
  • International research experience is a plus, specifically academic work in an international research institute and/or being a member of an international research network. 
  • You have excellent and demonstrable didactic qualities, and you are willing to further develop those.
  • You are a good listener, and are able to convey messages effectively and with courtesy;
  • You have a collegial attitude and enjoy teamwork.
  • A good command of English is required. 
  • The official administrative language used at KU Leuven is Dutch. If the candidate knows little or no Dutch at the employment start, KU Leuven will provide language training to enable participation in board meetings. Within five years of the date of appointment, the candidate is expected to have achieved CEFR level C1 in order to be able to teach in Dutch.

Offer

We offer a full-time position in an intellectually challenging and internationally oriented research environment. You will be appointed as assistant professor in a tenure track position with evaluation after 5 years. In the case of a positive evaluation after 5 years, the tenure track leads to a fixed appointment as associate professor. In Belgium, an assistant professor has the right to be promotor to supervise doctoral students independently and to apply for research funds as principal investigator.
You will be based in Leuven, a historic, dynamic and lively city in the center of Belgium, twenty minutes away from Brussels, the capital of the European Union, and less than two hours from Paris, London and Amsterdam.
KU Leuven is well equipped to welcome foreign professors and their family and provides practical support with regard to immigration & administration, housing, childcare, learning Dutch, or partner career coaching.  
To facilitate scientific onboarding and accelerate research in the first phase a starting grant of 110.000 euro is offered to new professors, appointed for at least 50%."
