KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. Your work will take place at the PDC Center for High Performance Computing. PDC is the leading Swedish supercomputing center hosted by KTH. It operates state-of-the-art computational and storage resources for a variety of scientific application domains, including mechanics, computational chemistry, life sciences, climatology, and physics. Amongst these systems is one of the largest supercomputer in the Nordics, Beskow, a 2.5 PF Cray XC-40 system with over 67,000 cores. This system is expected to be replaced early 2021 with a system of about 10 PF. For more information go to www.pdc.kth.se.
As part of the European Exascale Strategy, the further development of important applications towards Exascale is a key requirement. PDC is engaging in multiple international and national projects to improve the performance and scaling of CFD codes, particularly NEK5000. This includes code modernization, removal of performance bottlenecks, and porting to novel architectures (e.g. GPUs). The successful candidate may also join PDC’s support organization, providing advanced support to PDC users in different domains in close collaboration with the PDC systems group. The project will be conducted in close interaction with researchers from the Department of Engineering Mechanics (application specialists in fluid mechanics and turbulence simulations), and the Swedish e-Science Research Centre (SeRC).
Candidates need to have a PhD in computer science, computational science, or related fields and proven experiences in working with large scale applications and parallel programming environments (MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, OpenACC, etc.). Experiences with CFD applications are a plus.
Good command of English is required.
