The “Chromatin Biochemistry” laboratory of Prof. Wolfgang Fischle at KAUST invites applications for a Postdoc position in “Single Cell Analysis of Metabolome-Epigenome Interplay”.
Our research team is aiming to understand the molecular principles of epigenetic regulation that are embedded in the organization of cellular chromatin. In a new research project, we want to investigate the role different small cellular molecules (metabolites and derivates thereof) have onto chromatin regulation. A particular focus in this is on nuclear phosphoinositides. We plan to use novel single cell injection technology to disturb the nuclear concentration of small cellular molecules and apply single cell multiomics readout to determine the corresponding chromatin effects.
The research team is very diverse in background and nationalities and provides a highly stimulating working environment. We now seek a dynamic new colleague who wants to drive a project at the forefront of cell biology methods and epigenetics research.
The successful candidate is expected to develop the existing nuclear injection technology on the basis of a FluidFM system further for perturbing different small cellular molecules and in particular phosphoinositides in eukaryotic cell nuclei. In addition, single cell multiomics readout for determining transcriptional and chromatin changes (accessibility, modification status, etc.) are to be set up and analyzed. Strong core lab support (Fluidigm and 10X systems) and on all levels is available to drive the methodology development and data analysis. S/he will interface with other experimentalists in the research team as well as bioinformaticians to address a scientific question at the frontier of biological research.
Individuals must be able to work in a team and possess excellent communication skills. We expect high motivation, the ability to meet deadlines in a goal-oriented environment and the talent to organize personal and group work flows. Candidates must be accustomed to working under pressure and to contribute to scientific problem solving. High proficiency in English language is a must.
Applicants should hold a PhD in cellular or molecular biology or related disciplines or have adequate educational and scientific training. We are seeking candidates who have a strong background in analyzing complex cellular regulatory pathways paired with an interest in developing methodology in parallel to solving cutting edge research problems. Scholars must have the skills to drive new projects and to build fruitful interfaces with ongoing studies. Scientists with high motivation for basic research as well as the ability and desire to work independently in a multidisciplinary and international research environment are encouraged to apply.
