The “Chromatin Biochemistry” laboratory of Prof. Wolfgang Fischle at KAUST invites applications for a Postdoc position in “Chromatin Biochemistry”.
Our research team is aiming to understand the molecular principles of epigenetic regulation that are embedded in the organization of cellular chromatin. In continuation of an ongoing project, we want to decipher the mechanisms of how DNA methylation is propagated from one cell generation to the next in the complex chromatin environment. For this, we are using highly interdisciplinary approaches combining classical biochemistry and reconstitution systems with molecular and cellular biology.
The new position is embedded in a scientific group of very diverse background and nationalities and provides a highly stimulating working environment. The Chromatin Biochemistry laboratory is highly interdisciplinary and works with different experimental model systems (C. elegans; mouse and human cell lines) and in the context of different disease applications. We now seek a dynamic new colleague who has the ability and drive to strengthen our molecular and mechanistic research stream.
The successful candidate is expected to extend and further develop ongoing research that is aimed at establishing an in vitro chromatin-based DNA maintenance methylation system. S/he will use reconstitution, purification and proteomics approaches to delineate the set of factors that is required to execute DNA maintenance methylation in chromatin context. The development of parallel cellular experiments to test the models derived from the in vitro work is strongly encouraged. The postdoc will interface with other experimentalists in the research team working on related scientific problems to develop the defined research question in a broader context. Scholars will have the opportunity to write research and review papers and participate in grant writing. Additional professional development is available within different programs at KAUST.
Individuals must be able to work in a team and possess excellent communication skills. We expect high motivation, the ability to meet deadlines in a goal-oriented environment and the talent to organize personal and group work flows. Candidates must be accustomed to working under pressure and to contribute to scientific problem solving. High proficiency in English language is a must.
Applicants should hold a PhD in biochemistry, biophysics or have adequate educational and scientific training. We are seeking candidates who have a strong background in the analysis of molecular details of biological phenomena paired with high interest in solving mechanistical problems. Scholars must have the skills and drive to develop new projects and to build fruitful interfaces with ongoing studies. Scientists with high motivation for basic research as well as the ability and desire to work independently in a multidisciplinary and international research environment are encouraged to apply.
