Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Liver disease is an expanding and attractive field with many unanswered questions and the potential for long-term scientific careers. The Hagström research group at Karolinska Institutet has a long history and focus on clinical and epidemiological studies in the field of liver diseases, especially within metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) which currently have a global prevalence of 38%. Within our research group you will find an opportunity to use unique data sets to improve our understanding of liver diseases and contribute to world-leading research.

We offer an engaging interdisciplinary research environment where you may contribute to high quality research on an internationally competitive level. There is a strong interaction with other epidemiologists, clinicians, and other research labs, locally and internationally. You will use detailed data from a wide range of sources on liver disease development in Sweden, as well as highly characterized cohorts with genetic and histological information. The goal of this postdoc is to contribute to better health by improved identification of patients at risk for severe liver outcomes.

Your mission

Your main role will be to perform a broad range of analyses of registry- and clinical data on some of the largest cohorts in the field. You will have the opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary as well as an international setting. There will also be an opportunity to engage in teaching for the interested candidate. We are located at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge, which is an inclusive workplace, encouraging collaborative departmental and interdisciplinary research. This is a position of two years with possibility of extension.

Your profile

You have a PhD in fields such as epidemiology or biostatistics, alternatively a strong profile in such fields. We also consider candidates with a clinical PhD within hepatology with a clear focus on epidemiological projects. Previous experience registry-based research, especially using data from Swedish registries, is an advantage, as is clinical competence regarding liver diseases, especially MASLD. Knowledge about comparative effectiveness and causal inference methods is a merit. Fluency in English (both spoken and written) is required, while knowledge of Swedish is considered a merit. You are highly proficient in using statistical software such as R, SAS or STATA.

Personal qualities that are considered desirable:

  • A good team player with interpersonal skills and a considerate manner.
  • Willing to learn and collaborate with persons outside your own field.
  • Structured and flexible.

We put great emphasis on personal suitability in this recruitment.
