Postdoctoral position on Necroptosis in Liver Diseases

Irset - Inserm U1085, Rennes, France

The Irset team “Infection, Immunity and Environmental Factors in Liver”, headed by Dr Michel Samson, has a position available for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist.

About the project

In most liver diseases, constitutive death of hepatocytes seems to be a key element of disease aggravation which evolves from an inflammation status to fibrosis and eventually to cirrhosis, to finally lead to the potential development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Recent published data suggest that necroptosis or non-canonical necroptosis could be a cellular death process involved in the progression of several inflammatory acute or chronic liver diseases. Its role in NASH or in acute hepatitis need to be deepened.

The project aims at investigating the role of necroptosis in acute and chronic hepatitis by addressing:

  1. The susceptibility of mouse strains, genetically modified to disrupt necroptosis, to acute and chronic hepatitis (including a model leading to HCC);
  2. The identification of molecular factors implied in the non-canonical necroptosis occurring in the hepatocyte.

All facilities required for the project are available on site (microscopy, histology, flow cytometry, proteomics, and genomics platforms, animal facilities).

Profile and requirements

Applicants must hold a PhD with a first experience as a postdoctoral fellow. He/she should be able to conduct its own research while interacting with the team.

Preference will be given to candidates with strong quantitative background in molecular and cellular biology and in mouse experiments. Expertise in the field of cell death signaling is an advantage.

Collaborative and management skills are also greatly appreciated, and proficient knowledge of English and/or French is required.

Within the postdoc duration, the candidate will be encouraged to apply for a permanent research position at Inserm.

  • Position open for 12 months, with possible renewal for an additional period of 2 years.
  • Starting date: October 1st, 2018 at the latest.
  • Contract: the candidate will be hired on a fixed-term contract in accordance with the French legislation.
  • Salary: full-time yearly gross salary 48 500€

How to apply?

Please email your detailed CV, including a list of your published papers, a letter of intent explaining your motivations for the chosen position, and contact details of two referees to Dr Michel Samson.

While a good cover letter makes an explicit connection between how your past experience will help you succeed in the postdoc position, a great cover letter sparks the PI’s interest and ensures they read your CV.

How many times have you been asked, “What do you research?” only to draw a complete blank or ramble on for minutes? Situations like these are why you need an elevator pitch.
