The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is currently seeking an experienced individual to take on the role of
Examiner Responsible for its World Arts and Cultures course.
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation offering challenging programmes for a worldwide community of schools. It is now represented in over 150 countries and in over 5,000 schools. The IB provides an international pre-university curriculum and an international university entry qualification, which gives access to higher education on a worldwide basis. You may be interested to visit the public website at www.ibo.org for more details.
One of the characteristics of the IB's Diploma Programme is that students are required to study, as one of six subjects that constitute the diploma, one course from the “individuals and societies” subject group, courses commonly collectively known as the human sciences or social sciences. In essence, these subjects explore the interactions between humans and their environment in time, space and place.
The IB’s World Arts and Cultures course is a school-based syllabus, standard-level, May only subject that introduces students to study of art objects and other cultural phenomena (for example, advertising, carpets, ceramics, literature, folk music, cinema, pop videos, paintings, architecture, sculpture, clothing) as a means of exploring aspects of cultural identity.
World arts and cultures develops students’ critical awareness of their own cultures and understanding of other cultures and their claims. This promotes inter-personal, inter-cultural and international understanding and dialogue. It also encourages an international perspective on historical and current affairs.
The duties of Examiner Responsible include the setting and marking of examinations and may involve occasional (paid) travel to the IB Global Centre, Cardiff, UK.
