Job content
As a lecturer in Global Health you are responsible for the development of course units on Global Health, primarily for the teaching programs of the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences, but also in collaboration with other faculties of Hasselt University. Moreover, you will be responsible for coordinating the organization and follow-up of international internships, amongst others in India and Kenya, and you will help develop internationalization within Europe in the medical program. From your expertise you will help shape the faculty policy on internationalization.

Profile

  • You hold a Master's degree in Medicine with specific expertise in the domain of global health. Training in tropical medicine is a great asset. You have a doctorate or dissertation in the (bio)medical sciences (or equivalent).
  • You have experience working in “low- and middle-income” countries.
  • Based on experience and expertise in health care, you offer insight to students in the field of development cooperation, as well as the (health) issues of the fourth world.
  • You are cooperative and can work well in teams and can ensure clear communication.
  • You have organizational strength.
  • You are willing to go on short trips abroad.
  • You are willing, in terms of accessibility, to be flexible according to students' internship periods (summer term).
  • You have academic teaching experience.
  • You have a strong network in the healthcare sector that can offer added value for your academic teaching.
  • You have international partnerships and are willing to further develop these in the context of internships for the students of the faculty.
  • Dutch is the official administrative language of Hasselt University. If you do not have a sufficient knowledge of Dutch (CEFR level B2) upon your appointment, we expect you to obtain the required level no later than 5 years after being appointed or at the moment of tenure (usually after an internship of 3 years for senior academic staff). We provide tailor-made language training. If you are a coordinating lecturer you must have a command of the language of instruction of the program component at CEFR level C1. We provide tailor-made language training.

Offer
Depending on the candidate's qualifications, Hasselt University offers a position as a part-time (head) lecturer or professor (15% FTE) for a period of two years, to be extended after a favorable evaluation.

Selection procedure
You can only apply online up to and including 20 August 2024.
The selection procedure consists of a preselection based on application file, an interview and a test lesson / presentation.
