ABOUT THE PROJECT AND THE TEAM

The project “AFireTest” is a 1.5 million EUR project funded by the European Research Council (ERC). The project is focused on developing the next generation of fire testing and started in September 2023. Adoption of the approaches being developed within AFireTest will help ensure that climate friendly innovations in the built environment are implemented while ensuring an adequate level of fire safety. Fire safety is however a highly regulated field and the adoption of new fire testing approaches will require major regulatory changes and large follow-up investments. It is therefore necessary to perform an in-depth evaluation of the costs and benefits of the proposed regulatory framework, as well as a comparison against alternative approaches for design acceptance. We are currently looking for a post-doctoral researcher experienced in the discipline of ‘Law and Economics’ (L&E) to lead this evaluation.

For more information on the AFireTest project, see the EU announcement:
https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101075556,
and this podcast episode of the Fire Science Show: https://tinyurl.com/AFireTest.

The team leader (dr. Ruben Van Coile) has degrees in Civil Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering and Law.
