Bioinformatics Analyst (60-100%)

The Biomedical Informatics Group at ETH Zurich is hiring a highly motivated Bioinformatics Analyst (60-100%) with experience in biomedical, genomics and integrative research projects involving large-scale molecular data sets.

The Biomedical Informatics Group’s research lies at the interface between methods research in machine learning & sequence analysis and relevant application areas in biology & medicine. In interdisciplinary collaborations, our group has significantly contributed to the understanding of several RNA-dependent processes including RNA splicing and translation.
Current research focuses include large-scale Machine Learning, identification of RNA-processing regulators, developing clinical decision support systems (analysis of electronic health records (EHR)) and developing methods and resources for international data sharing of genomic and clinical data. Prof. Gunnar Rätsch is leading multiple international working groups, including the RNA analysis group of the International Cancer Genome Consortium. He is an active contributor to the Global Alliance of Genomics and Health (GA4GH), an international organization that promotes and technically supports data sharing across institutional and country boundaries and he leads the data group of the BRCA Challenge project, a driver project of GA4GH.
The primary focus of the advertised position will be the workflow development and pipeline integration in a tumour immunology platform project. The tasks include extraction of molecular phenotypes from RNA-seq, DNA-seq and MS data, perform data integration and to derive sample-specific, alternative splicing derived neoepitopes.
Additionally, we are seeking support in the further development of the BRCA Exchange Platform (http://brcaexchange.org/). BRCA Exchange is a publicly accessible Web portal that provides a user-friendly interface for patients, clinicians, and researchers to access curated, expert panel reviewed interpretations of BRCA1/2 genetic variants, as well as supporting evidence. Expertise in medical genetics and prior work related to BRCA1/2 mutation is a plus.
The successful candidate has an MSc in computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field, and has experience in biomedical, genomics, or integrative research projects involving molecular data sets. He or she is acquainted with high-dimensional genomic/transcriptomic data analysis. Familiarity in HPC, strong programming skills as well as knowledge of R and Python are requirements. Experience in statistics is a plus. The applicant should have excellent communication skills in English. German is a plus. The position is fixed term for one year with the possibility of renewal.
