The Faculty of Art and Design is seeking to fill a
Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is an internationally established university with 160 years of history that is rooted in the Bauhaus tradition. It combines science, technology, art and design. This approach determines the self-image of the faculties of Architecture and Urbanism, Civil Engineering, Art and Design, and Media. In addition to their subject-specific functions/, the faculties are also committed to interdisciplinary collaboration and to the interpenetration between art, science and practice.
In addition to a relevant university degree, doctorate, habilitation (post-doctoral lecture qualification), junior professorship (or equivalent academic achievements), applicants should also provide proof of appropriate pedagogical qualification and university teaching experience in the relevant subject areas. They should also provide proof that they have successfully procured external funding and that they have experience in pursuing respective research projects. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar ascribes considerable importance to the supervision of students and the successful candidate is expected to be present at the university when required. The ability to conduct courses in English is expected, as is participation in internal university administration.
The professorship of the "History and Theory of Visual Communication" is associated with the Scientific Disciplines in the Faculty of Art and Design. It focusses on the historical and theoretical foundations as well as methodological and discourse-specific knowledge of visual communications and beyond. It also examines the inherent processes of conception, production, and connection of visual territories in a global – and increasingly digital – media culture. As such, the professorship fosters a cultural foundation of visual communication, taking into account theoretical concepts, methodological approaches, socio-historical contexts, and corresponding empirical explorations of contemporary practices. In addition, the professorship supports and monitors thesis projects in the artistic and academic fields while strongly promoting interdisciplinary cooperation.
The conditions of employment are defined in § 84 of the Thuringian Higher Education Act (Thüringer Hochschulgesetz). If these requirements are met, the successful candidate who fills the full-time position will be employed as a civil servant (Beamter).
Bauhaus-Universität Weimar pursues an equal-opportunity, family-friendly human resources policy. The university’s strategic goals include increasing the proportion of women in teaching and research. The university was awarded a »TOTAL E-QUALITY« rating, and was given the title of »Gleichstellung: Ausgezeichnet!« (»Gender Equality: Outstanding!«) under the Federal Government-Länder Women Professors Programme. Bauhaus-Universität Weimar would therefore like to expressly invite qualified female scholars and academics to submit applications. People with disabilities will receive preferential treatment if other qualifications are equivalent.
