About the employer

The faculty of information studies is the first public faculty independent of any Slovene university and at the same time it is the first faculty in Novo mesto. The act of establishing the Faculty of information studies in Novo mesto was passed on 24 th June 2008 by the National assembly of the Republic of Slovenia (by 66 votes to nil). It is the first pillar of the public higher educational system in the region.

The study programmes started taking place in the school year 2008/09, when 122 students are registered: 20 undergraduates of the university study programme, 64 undergraduates of the higher education study programme, 38 postgraduates of the MSc study programme.

A good faculty is made by good professors, not by beautiful walls. Therefore, a big attention has been put on employing lecturers and researchers, who not only they have a PhD degree in the field they teach, but they have also gained experience from the projects of the European Union and economy and are prepared to advance their knowledge in a particular professional field.

The following represent the main priorities and at the same time very important projects being carried out at the moment:

  • establishing an Institute for IT,
  • setting up an IT academy,
  • solving limitations regarding the premises,
  • preparing a PhD study programmes from the field of information science and computer technology, which will be a key factor for a professional and academic progress of FIS,
  • establishing connections with foreign universities/ faculties, since this represents a good way to ensure good professors, especially when taking into account a closure of the Slovene higher education system; here, it is very helpful that many of the FIS staff completed a part of their study obligations abroad,
  • cooperation with economy.

You are kindly invited to join us either as a partner of the faculty, as a lecturer or as a student of FIS.
