The Faculty of Science at the University of Turku is inviting applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or (Full) Professor in Learning Analytics at the Turku Research Institute for Learning Analytics (TRILA). The tenure for a Professor is permanent, while an Assistant Professor first serves for a fixed term of 3-5 years and an Associate Professors for 2-4 years before being evaluated for an upgrade. TRILA is part of the "Education for the future" (EDUCA) flagship consortium funded by the Academy of Finland. This eight-year initiative is designed to create an educational research ecosystem that deepens our understanding of learning and the application of technology in educational contexts. The multidisciplinary ecosystem will build a data infrastructure to combine theoretical and multi-method expertise from education, psychology, learning analytics, sociology, and economics and provide a platform for exploiting large longitudinal and register data sets. This infrastructure will facilitate the integration of theoretical knowledge and diverse methodologies, enabling the use of extensive, longitudinal, and registry datasets. The project seeks to enhance the foundation for educational policy research, improve understanding of optimal learning scenarios and engagement with education, and contribute to research on social and individual learning processes, professional competencies in education, and developing scalable technological solutions and learning environments.
The (Assistant, Associate, or Full) Professor conducts and supervises scientific research, provides teaching based on it, monitors scientific developments, and participates in social interaction and international cooperation in their field. This includes conducting high-quality research in the field, forming and leading research teams, acquiring domestic and international research funding, supervising theses at all academic levels, developing teaching in the field, establishing and maintaining international contacts, participating in continuing scientific education and training, and continuing professional development.

The candidate is required to meet the the qualification requirements of the position in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure 31 §.
The position of Assistant Professor is open to talented researchers and teachers at the end of their postdoctoral phase or beyond who have already made a good start in their scientific career. The Associate Professor position is aimed at more experienced and internationally renowned experts with an excellent publication record and proven success in securing external funding. The post of a Professor requires strong proof of a high level of excellence in research and teaching.
The candidate must have a suitable doctoral degree, the ability to work independently in a scientific environment, experience in scientific research management, experience in national and international cooperation in the field of research represented, and the ability to provide high-quality research-based teaching and to supervise theses. An appropriate doctoral degree may be in a Science or Engineering field, such as Learning analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer science, Data science, or a relevant field in the Humanities.
We are looking for candidates with skills, evidence, and interests in learning analytics, especially in mathematics learning, methods for learning data analysis and computer-aided instruction, or research issues in computational thinking. In particular, we value applicants experienced with interdisciplinary research and teaching activities showcasing new research methods and methodological expertise in creating and analysing large data sets. Specific attention will be paid to success in obtaining research funding. An added value will be a proven track record in bringing in international funding and working with various stakeholders including industry.
