About IWRI:

International Water Research Institute (IWRI/UM6P) aims to rethink and adapt research, development, innovation and training to new paradigms to meet the future challenges of water and climate.

IWRI implements interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary education and research programs around issues related to Water and Climate, on the campus of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Benguerir. The objectives are to conduct cutting-edge research where local themes are connected to global issues of water and climate, with a focus on:

  • Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM),
  • Development of advanced water technologies (irrigation, water supply and sanitation, desalination, wastewater treatment and reuse), 
  • Hydro-informatics, 
  • Climate Change and Adaptation Strategies. 

Job description: 

IWRI is dedicated to advancing understanding and solutions for sustainable water management, particularly in regions facing complex challenges. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to investigate the intersection of water resources, climate change, and community resilience.

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will lead investigations into Oasis and Khettara systems in Morocco. These traditional water management systems are vital for sustaining agriculture, ecosystems, and communities in arid and semi-arid regions. Your research will delve into the intricate dynamics of these systems, assessing their resilience, vulnerabilities, and responses to climate change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth research on Oasis and Khettara systems, including historical analysis, fieldwork, and data collection.
  • Investigate the impact of climate change on water availability, quality, and distribution in Oasis and Khettara regions.
  • Collaborate with local communities, stakeholders, and experts to understand the socio-economic dimensions of water management and adaptation strategies.
  • Analyze and interpret data to produce high-quality research outputs, including publications, reports, and presentations.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative solutions and policies to enhance water resilience and support vulnerable communities.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Hydrology, Environmental Science, Geoscience, or a related field.
  • Expertise in water resources management, hydrological modeling, and climate change impact assessment.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with statistical methods, GIS, and remote sensing techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and present research findings.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Arabic or French is desirable.
