Manchester is one of the most extensive higher education centres in Europe and the most popular city for students in the UK. We are at the heart of it, delivering cutting-edge skills to people from 120 countries – 94% of whom go into work or further study within six months of graduating. Since 2006, we have invested £350 million into our exceptional campus to deliver our vision of being the best modern university, and we continue to achieve and innovate every day.
Our Faculty of Business and Law is playing an integral role in the creation and launch of a University-wide centre of excellence for sports research and education. The objective is simple: to become a driving force for consultancy and teaching, furthering understanding of sport business operations, management, marketing, policy, governance and culture. To this end, we are developing imaginative academic programmes that meet the needs of the sport sector and supporting communities to develop, participate and excel in sporting and recreational activities.
Providing inspiring academic leadership to your team, you will embed a strong research culture, generate significant funding through the submission of relevant bids, and ensure a steady pipeline of publications that achieve international recognition. At the same time, you will actively develop new income streams by identifying opportunities for research, consultancy, knowledge exchange projects, short courses and taught programmes.
To be equal to the challenge, you will require an impressive background in at least one of the following areas: sports marketing; sports governance; sports leadership; sports policy; or any field related to the business, governance and culture of sport. Equally importantly, you should be qualified to PhD level in a sport-related discipline, experienced in leading research teams and skilled in shaping programmes of research. Finally, you will bring a highly commercial mind-set, enabling you to maximise our income and raise our profile on the global stage.
